Dash Mall and Parking makes an alliance with Piiddo Merida, people can pay with Dash at +250 allied stores
Dash Mall and Parking team does not stop expanding in Venezuela. Dash Mall and Parking, an association focused on the growth of the adoption in shopping centers and parking lot of this cryptocurrency in the country, announced a partnership with Piiddo, a home delivery and shopping services company to launch a new digital platform that exclusively accepts Dash as a method. Payment.

The platform seeks to serve the population of the state of Merida, and will allow purchases to be made in stores and commercial premises such as Ron Santa Teresa, Silvanitos, Fresh Market, Diegos Cafe, Susys cookies, Avila Burger, La Nota Bar & Grill, and many other businesses. with a strong regional presence.

In a statement shared with BeInCrypto, Amílcar Erazo, co-founder of Piido, expressed optimism about this platform, assuring that it could improve the processing of electronic payments - especially considering that the Venezuelan banking platform is very inefficient from a technological point of view:
"We are very excited to be able to help fellow Merideños to simplify purchases and offer delivery service in the same application. Dash as a payment method on our platform will allow us to receive payments in seconds and with low commissions"
Adrián Aguiar, another Piiddo co-founder was more specific. He explained that Dash's virtues - especially after its last update - make it a very attractive option compared to traditional banking options:
“Dash's instantaneous global transactions, its capacity and ease of use, make it the ideal tool to automate payments and provide a solution in the midst of the banking problems that our country presents. With Dash, now we can receive payments and provide our service, almost instantly ”
When a user makes a purchase in Piiddo, the team will receive the payment in Dash in their wallet and immediately proceed to dispatch the order in the store that the client has destined. The methodology is very similar to that implemented by services such as Uber or Rappi, which have no presence in Venezuela.
On Twitter, Ernesto Contreras, Head of Business Development at Dashpay, was quick to spread the news that obviously benefits the Dash ecosystem:

And this vision is shared and appreciated by the various regional communities focused on cryptocurrency. Yoana Castillo, founder of the Dash Mall and Parking project, explains it this way:
"Dash's objective is to be a cryptocurrency focused on payments and real use, as it is the easiest to use and the most scalable in the world, paying special attention to solving payment problems in closed ecosystems and in places where it makes sense to pay with cryptocurrencies

Let's talk about IOTA (serious)

I will be honest with you. IOTA is the project I put all of my hopes in since mid 2017 and also the one I’m invested in the most. But I definitely lost a lot of faith in IOTA over the last years. My intention for this post is not to spread FUD. I’d really like to discuss some topics that seem very odd and I’d appreciate your input. If I got things wrong please feel free to correct me. I will try to add some sources but most of these things are well known within the community. If you need information more you can join the official discord and read back past announcements or use the search function to find certain discussions.
We all know that IOTA promised a lot over the past years but there are very few things that actually happened. A lot of things that made IOTA special and a lot of things that were promoted along the way simply will not happen or will be removed in the future. Many of these things have already or will impact the price. Here are my comments towards...

1. The coordinator just directs the flow of the tangle
I guess everyone knows by now. IOTA is centralized. Value transactions have been disabled for almost a month now. Nobody can move their funds because the coordinator is down. Next topic.

2. IOTA can scale
In the past, IOTA was always promoted as a cryptocurrency that could scale. One transaction has to confirm two others. Spam helps the network. Spam the network to help make it faster. The coordinator will be shut down as soon as the network reaches a certain number of transactions per second.
Today we know that all of this is not true. IOTA 1.0 (the current IOTA) cannot scale. Spamming only forces the nodes to make snapshots more often because they run out of space. Too much spam kills the network. IOTA 1.0 doesn’t work. We need a totally new approach. Even the “one transaction has to confirm two others” rule might not stay. [1]

3. JINN
In the past the Founders always said that IOTA was developed for JINN. A Trinary Processor developed by a company owned by Sergey Ivancheglo (CFB) and David Sonstebo. That’s why IOTA is Trinary. [2] Now after years of research and development we get huge news: JINN is dead. [3]
Also, CFB leaves IOTA and threatens to sue David Sonstebo. David and CFB engage in an open twitter and discord war. CFB wants to work on his own Trinary version of IOTA [4]

4. Trinary
IOTA will switch to Binary after wasting years with programming everything with Trinary hardware in mind. [5] [6]

5. The Trinary hash function Troika [7]
IOTA and CYBERCRYPT developed a new Trinary hash function for IOTA. With the switch to Binary this hash function is now useless and all the time and resources spent on it were wasted.

6. Signature Scheme
IOTA uses Winternitz One Time Signatures (WOTS) to make it quantum secure. This is the reason why it’s not safe to send from an address twice. Ok, just don’t reuse addresses, what’s the problem? The problem is that everything that is build for IOTA from wallets to exchange integrations is way more complicated to program and maintain than any other crypto. If I was an exchange I’d never ever list IOTA. Additionally, people that are only familiar with other cryptos might reuse an address and put their funds at risk. And this happens a lot. And for what? There are no quantum computers. Now after years it seems the IOTA Foundation finally realized that WOTS suck for adoption and want to add another signature scheme which allows address reuse and is not quantum secure. So much time wasted. [6]

7. Switch from a balance model to UTXO model [6] [7]
UTXO will be so much better and easier than our current model. Much innovation. But Bitcoin and other cryptos have been using the UTXO model from the beginning.

8. People leaving the IOTA Foundation
A lot of great people left the IOTA Foundation and for most we don’t know why. To my knowledge there is no public list of people who still work for the IF. Here are some people who left (most silently):
Samuel Reid, Rolf Werner, Ralf Rottmann, David Cohen, Jesse Babbra, Andreas Osowksi, John D. Licciardello, Gur Huberman, Alisa Maas, Janine Hartel, Lukas Tassanyi (MicroHash)
And these are just a few I found after a quick search in Discord.

9. Qubic (Q)
There was a huge hype around Q even before it was announced. There was a new website including a countdown. Until today we actually didn’t see anything significant related to Q except some posts by Eric Hop indicating that qubic is still very far away.

10. IOTA 2.0 (Coordicide)
The developers spent (wasted) years fixing IOTA 1.0 until they finally realized that it doesn’t work (it’s centralized and not scalable) although they told us it was simulated and well researched before. The IOTA Foundation repeatedly publicly attacked researchers who found flaws in the protocol.
IOTA 2.0 is basically a totally different protocol than the current one. The prototype is not finished yet. It’s not tested at all and it gets rid of most things that were used in the current version. How high is the chance that IOTA 2.0 will work? It seems like over the past years a lot of time was simply wasted on developing things that got tossed into the bin and now they are starting all over.

11. Partnerships and Adoption
If IOTA has one thing it’s partnerships. But after an announced partnership nothing ever really followed. So, is any company like Bosch, VW, Nokia, Audi, Vodafone or Jaguar actually still working on building something with IOTA or did they drop it?

12. Wallet hack
The recent wallet hack could have been avoided easily but the Moonpay integrating was rushed and nobody checked the code again.
An unknown amount of seeds has been stolen and the attacker will be able to transfer the funds of everyone who didn’t use the migration tool in time to exchanges and dump everything on March 10 along with anyone who wanted to sell within the last month.

All these points made me lose a lot of faith in my investment long term but especially short term. I talked to some friends and especially the ones following the project very closely share my doubts.
But my sample number is rather small so I‘d appreciate your input. Please feel free to comment on anything I wrote and feel free to disagree or correct me.

Chinese authorities are testing the digital yuan: is it worth waiting for the digital dollar?

Chinese authorities are testing the digital yuan: is it worth waiting for the digital dollar?

Chinese authorities are testing the digital yuan: is it worth waiting for the digital dollar?
The development of the digital renminbi is proceeding rapidly: a few days ago it became known that companies and customers of the largest banks in several cities of China were testing it. Moreover, corporations such as McDonald’s and Starbucks will take part in the test, among others. + Why is China in a hurry to release a national cryptocurrency, at what stage is development and why its main opponent is not Bitcoin or Libra from Facebook, but the US dollar, DeCenter found out.
For a long time, almost nothing was known about China’s national digital currency (DCEP), or the digital renminbi, except that the Chinese authorities were working on it. Information was officially confirmed only in 2018. Moreover, it turned out that research and development has been ongoing since 2014. And in the summer of 2019, the deputy head of the department of the National Bank of China (NBK) Mu Changchun, who is called the main ideologist of the digital renminbi project in power, said that he was “almost ready.” This was preceded by the sensational announcement of the cryptocurrency project Libra from Facebook, which officials in many countries took with hostility.
As DeCenter wrote, cryptocurrencies have pushed the Chinese authorities to create DCEP by the growing competition with fiat currencies. Despite the formal ban on cryptocurrency exchanges and ICOs, Chinese people are still actively using crypto assets. The digital yuan could be an alternative to decentralized coins. In addition, the main capacities of world mining of the Bitcoin network are concentrated in China, the blockchain startup industry is developing rapidly and with government support. Such a contradictory and motley picture.
According to the professor of Fudan University, Michael Song, the real impetus for accelerating the development of the digital renminbi was not so much the Libra coin, but the keynote address by President Xi Jinping in October 2019. Then he called on officials to “make every effort” to develop the blockchain and introduce solutions based on it into the real economy. At the same time, Xi noted the importance of implementing technology in digital finance. According to Song, this was a signal for central authorities to accelerate the release of DCEP and facilitate its distribution in China and beyond.
Mobile App First
But the real details about the digital yuan became known recently, in April. Then, WeChat published screenshots from the test mobile application of the Agricultural Bank of China (SBC) for operations with DCEP. Some of the application’s functions were visible on the screenshots: wallet, function of payment via QR-code (a popular payment method in China), receiving and sending money, as well as “pairing” wallets of two users for transactions through convergence of devices (probably using NFC-technology)
Mobile app interface for the RMB.
Later, the NBK confirmed the authenticity of the screenshots and added that the digital renminbi is being tested in cooperation with several commercial banks, and its territory is limited to four major cities. As The Block later clarified with reference to Chinese media, in one of the cities — Suzhou — municipal officials in May will receive half of the subsidies for travel on public transport in “digital yuan”.
The authorities did not disclose the official launch date for DCEP, but added that the next test of the digital national currency will be held in 2022, during the Beijing Winter Olympics. Probably, then the scale of the test will be much larger and will also affect foreign citizens.
It is curious that on the same day, the State Committee for Development and Reforms of the PRC — the former Gosplan, now in charge of strategic economic planning, announced the inclusion of blockchain in the national technology development strategy. Now it is a priority for the state along with other promising areas, such as artificial intelligence, cloud computing and the Internet of things.
Commerce and trading in the digital yuan
The NBK is not limited to banks and individual users of the digital yuan: thanks to a report from the Chinese publication InterChain Pulse, another test was revealed, but with the participation of almost two dozen companies. The project will be held on the territory of the New Xun’an District (something like a special economic zone, but an urban type).
The project includes companies in the field of catering, retail, transport and entertainment. The list also includes American companies McDonald’s, Starbucks and Subway, as well as a number of local chains: fast food Qingfeng Baozi, supermarkets JD (operated by the leading online retailer of the same name in China), Jinfeng cafe and others. Four state-owned banks provide financial infrastructure, as well as fintech giants Ant Financial (formerly Alipay) and Tencent. Administrative support is provided by local governments.
Xun’an — a kind of testing ground for the “digital city”. All government services have already been digitized here, 5G mobile networks, unmanned vehicles and much more are used. At the end of March, a blockchain laboratory was opened in the city, which will be engaged in the implementation of DLT-based solutions in urban infrastructure and services.
At the same time, InterChain Pulse did not provide data on the date of the start of the digital renminbi experiment in Xiongang or the timing of its implementation.
Ram against the dollar
Given that the digital yuan is a project of the Chinese authorities, it is not surprising that, in addition to domestic economic interests, they also pursue political goals. Namely, the victory over the global “hegemony” of the US dollar. So, the DCEP developer Mu Changchun in September last year said that “the digital yuan is necessary for China to protect the monetary sovereignty of the country”.
The Ledger Insights portal cites an article by the Chinese political science center Zero One Think Tank, which states that the digital yuan will help “internationalize” the Chinese currency. In particular, through transactions in large-scale foreign economic projects of the PRC. Among them is the One Belt, One Road initiative, which brings together many of China’s neighbors as part of the Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st Century Sea Silk Projects. High scalability of DCEP will solve the problem of increasing the share of settlements in RMB in foreign trade. So far, China has failed.
State-owned Chinese companies already have the infrastructure needed for cross-border operations in the digital yuan. For example, last fall, the Chinese Construction Bank (the third largest in China) released the second version of its financial blockchain platform for international settlements after the volume of operations on it exceeded $ 50 billion. The platform users are mainly foreign banks and Chinese exporters.
All four major Chinese state banks, which recently announced their participation in the project for the commercial testing of the “digital yuan” in Xiongang, have their own foreign trading platforms based on a distributed registry.
Digital dollar
The U.S. currency really dominates global finance: in 2019, 90% of international transfers and 60% of government reserves were in US dollars, while the yuan in both segments accounted for only 2%. Such data are quoted by Voice of America.
The dollar is needed by private companies and banks to hedge the risks of depreciation of national currencies in international transactions. However, the widespread use of the dollar also gives the US government leverage — for example, with the introduction of economic sanctions.
The emergence of alternative international currencies could undermine US influence. In a commentary on Voice of America, Special Assistant to the President Tim Morrison expressed confidence that Beijing’s intention to “dominate this new financial technology should be alarming”, referring to cryptocurrencies.
Apparently, while the US authorities do not plan to issue their own digital dollar.
In late February, speaking in the Senate, US Treasury Secretary Stephen Mnuchin said that Washington does not intend to issue a national cryptocurrency at this time, but may return to this issue in the future.
The day before Mnuchin’s statement, Jerome Powell, the head of the US Federal Reserve System, spoke in the House of Representatives. Congressmen called on him and colleagues in the government’s financial bloc to step up work on the digital dollar until they got ahead of the Chinese. To this Powell replied that the conditions in the USA and China are different: “For example, the idea of a registry where everyone will see each other’s transactions is unlikely to be attractive in the context of the United States. This is not a problem for China.”
As for Libra, last year’s announcement of which was accompanied by mass criticism of Western officials, on April 20 an updated version of the white paper project was released. In the new document, the developers officially abandoned the concept of a single global stablecoin, decentralization and anonymity and pledged to comply with all regulatory requirements.

Nuvmining | What Is Bitcoin, How Is It Various Than "Real" Cash and also How Can I Get Some?

Bitcoin is a digital money. It does not exist in the kind of physical type that the currency & coin we're used to exist in. It does not even exist in a type as physical as Syndicate cash. It's electrons - not molecules.
nuv mining
Yet consider just how much cash you directly handle. You obtain an income that you require to the bank - or it's autodeposited without you even seeing the paper that it's not printed on. You after that utilize a debit card (or a checkbook, if you're old school) to access those funds. At finest, you see 10% of it in a money form in your pocket or in your pocketbook. So, it turns out that 90% of the funds that you take care of are online - electrons in a spreadsheet or data source.
nuvmining
However delay - those are UNITED STATE funds (or those of whatever nation you come from), safe in the financial institution and also ensured by the complete belief of the FDIC approximately about $250K per account, right? Well, not exactly. Your banks might just called for to maintain 10% of its deposits on down payment. In some cases, it's much less. It offers the rest of your cash bent on other individuals for approximately thirty years. It charges them for the funding, and also costs you for the advantage of letting them offer it out.
Just how does money obtain developed?
Your financial institution reaches produce money by offering it out.
State you deposit $1,000 with your bank. They then lend out $900 of it. Unexpectedly you have $1000 as well as another person has $900. Magically, there's $1900 floating around where prior to there was only a grand.
Currently claim your bank instead offers 900 of your dollars to another financial institution. That financial institution in turn lends $810 to an additional financial institution, which after that offers $720 to a client. Poof! $3,430 in an immediate - virtually $2500 produced out of nothing - as long as the bank follows your federal government's central bank rules.
Production of Bitcoin is as different from bank funds' creation as cash money is from electrons. It is not managed by a government's reserve bank, but rather by consensus of its customers as well as nodes. It is not developed by a restricted mint in a structure, however rather by dispersed open source software program and computer. As well as it needs a type of real work for production. Extra on that particular shortly.
Who created BitCoin?
The very first BitCoins remained in a block of 50 (the "Genesis Block") created by Satoshi Nakomoto in January 2009. It really did not really have any type of worth initially. It was simply a cryptographer's toy based on a paper published two months earlier by Nakomoto. Nakotmoto is an evidently imaginary name - nobody appears to know that she or he or they is/are.
That monitors everything?
Once the Genesis Block was developed, BitCoins have actually because been produced by doing the work of keeping track of all deals for all BitCoins as a kind of public journal. The nodes/ computers doing the computations on the journal are awarded for doing so. For each collection of effective calculations, the node is rewarded with a specific quantity of BitCoin (" BTC"), which are after that freshly produced right into the BitCoin community. For this reason the term, "BitCoin Miner" - because the procedure develops new BTC. As the supply of BTC increases, and also as the number of transactions boosts, the job essential to update the public ledger gets harder and also much more complicated. As a result, the variety of new BTC right into the system is created to be concerning 50 BTC (one block) every 10 minutes, worldwide.
Although the computer power for mining BitCoin (as well as for upgrading the public ledger) is currently boosting exponentially, so is the intricacy of the mathematics problem (which, incidentally, additionally needs a certain amount of thinking), or "evidence" needed to mine BitCoin as well as to settle the transactional publications at any type of provided moment. So the system still only generates one 50 BTC block every 10 minutes, or 2106 blocks every 2 weeks.
So, in a sense, everyone tracks it - that is, all the nodes in the network keep track of the background of every single BitCoin.
Just how much is there and also where is it?
There is a maximum variety of BitCoin that can ever before be produced, and that number is 21 million. According to the Khan Academy, the number is anticipated to peak around the year 2140.
Since, today there were 12.1 million BTC in flow
Your very own BitCoin are kept in a documents (your BitCoin purse) in your very own storage space - your computer system. The data itself is evidence of the number of BTC you have, and also it can move with you on a mobile phone.
If that data with the cryptographic key in your wallet obtains lost, so does your supply of BitCoin funds. And also you can't obtain it back.
Just how much is it worth?
The value differs based on just how much people believe it deserves - similar to in the exchange of "real cash." Yet due to the fact that there is no central authority trying to maintain the value around a certain level, it can vary a lot more dynamically. The very first BTC were generally worth absolutely nothing at the time, however those BTC still exist. Since 11AM on December 11, 2013, the general public value was $906.00 United States per BitCoin. When I completed composing this sentence, it was $900.00. Around the start of 2013, the value was around $20.00 United States. On November 27, 2013 it was valued at greater than $1,000.00 United States per BTC. So it's kind of unstable presently, yet it's expected to calm down.
The complete value of all BitCoin - since the period at the end of this sentence - is around 11 billion US bucks.
How can I get me some?
First, you have to have a BitCoin purse. This post has links to get one.
Then one method is to purchase some from one more private party, like these individuals on Bloomberg TV. One method is to purchase some on an exchange, like Mt. Gox.
As well as finally, one means is to dedicate a lot of computer power as well as power to the process as well as become a BitCoin miner. That's well outside the extent of this post. However if you have a couple of thousand extra dollars lying around, you can obtain rather a gear.
Exactly how can I spend it?
There are numerous vendors of all sizes that take BitCoin in payment, from cafes to auto dealers. There's also a BitCoin ATM in Vancouver, British Columbia for transforming your BTC to cash in Vancouver, BC.
And so?
Money has had a lengthy background - centuries in size. Somewhat recent tale tells us that Manhattan Island was bought for wampum - seashells & the like. In the very early years of the United States, different financial institutions printed their own money. On a recent visit to Salt Spring Island in British Columbia, I invested currency that was just good on the beautiful island. The common style among these was a trust agreement amongst its customers that specific currency held value. In some cases that worth was tied directly to something strong and physical, like gold. In 1900 the U.S. connected its currency straight to gold (the "Gold Requirement") and in 1971, ended that tie.
Currently money is traded like any kind of various other commodity, although a certain nation's currency worth can be propped up or decreased through activities of their reserve bank. BitCoin is an alternative money that is also traded as well as its value, like that of various other products, is figured out via trade, yet is not stood up or lessened by the action of any kind of bank, however rather straight by the activities of its individuals. Its supply is minimal as well as known nevertheless, and also (unlike physical money) so is the history of each and every single BitCoin. Its viewed worth, like all various other money, is based on its utility and also count on.
As a form of currency, BitCoin not specifically a new thing in Production, however it absolutely is a new means for cash to be created.

Abstract

The early smart contracts of Era Swap Ecosystem like TimeAlly, Newly Released Tokens, Assurance, BetDeEx of Era Swap Ecosystem, are deployed on Ethereum mainnet. These smart contracts are finance-oriented (DeFi), i.e. most of the transactions are about spending or earning of Era Swap tokens which made paying the gas fees in Ether somewhat intuitive to the user (withdrawal charges in bank, paying tax while purchasing burgers) but transactions that are not token oriented like adding a nominee or appointee voting also needs Ether to be charged. As more Era Swap Token Utility platform ideas kept appending to the Era Swap Main Whitepaper, more non-financial transaction situations arise like updating status, sending a message, resolving a dispute and so on. Paying extensively for such actions all day and waiting for the transaction to be included in a block and then waiting for enough block confirmations due to potential chain re-organizations is counter-intuitive to existing free solutions like Facebook, Gmail. This is the main barrier that is stopping Web 3.0 from coming to the mainstream.
As alternatives to Ethereum, there are few other smart contract development platforms that propose their own separate blockchain that features for higher transaction throughput, but they compromise on decentralization for improving transaction speeds. Moreover, the ecosystem tools are most advancing in Ethereum than any other platform due to the massive developer community.
With Era Swap Network, the team aims to achieve scalability, speed and low-cost transactions for Era Swap Ecosystem (which is currently not feasible on Ethereum mainnet), without compromising much on trustless asset security for Era Swap Community users.

Introduction to Era Swap Network

Era Swap Network (ESN) aims to solve the above-mentioned problems faced by Era Swap Ecosystem users by building a side-blockchain on top of Ethereum blockchain using the Plasma Framework.
Era Swap Network leverages the Decentralisation and Security of Ethereum and the Scalability achieved in the side-chain, this solves the distributed blockchain trilema. In most of the other blockchains, blocks are a collection of transactions and all the transactions in one block are mined by a miner in one step. Era Swap Network will consist of Bunches of Blocks of Era Swap Ecosystem Transactions.

Decentralization

Layer 2

Scalable and Secure

A miner mines all the blocks in a bunch consequently and will commit the bunch-root to the ESN Plasma Smart Contract on Ethereum mainnet.

Development Overview
Initially, we will start with a simple Proof-of-Authority (PoA) based consensus of EVM to start the development and testing of Era Swap Ecosystem Smart Contracts as quickly as possible on the test-net. We will call this as an alpha-release of ESN test-net and only internal developers will work with this for developing smart contracts for Era Swap Ecosystem. User’s funds in a Plasma implementation with a simple consensus like PoA are still secured as already committed bunch-roots cannot be reversed.
Eventually, we want to arrive on a more control-decentralized consensus algorithm like Proof-of-Stake (PoS) probably, so that even if the chain operator shuts down their services, a single Era Swap Ecosystem user somewhere in the world can keep the ecosystem alive by running software on their system and similarly more people can join to decentralize the control further. In this PoS version, we will modify the Parity Ethereum client in such a way, that at least 50% of transaction fees collected will go to the Luck Pool of NRT Smart Contract on Ethereum mainnet and rest can be kept by miner of the blocks/bunch of blocks if they wish. After achieving such an implementation, we will release this as a beta version to the community for testing the software on their computers with Kovan ERC20 Era Swaps (Ethereum test-net).

Era Swap Decentralised Ecosystem
Following platforms are to be integrated:
  1. Era Swap Token Contract (adapted ERC20 on Ethereum) The original asset will lie on Ethereum to avoid loss due to any kind of failure in ESN.
  2. Plasma Manager Contract (on Ethereum) To store ESN bunch headers on Ethereum.
  3. Reverse Plasma Manager Contract (on ESN) Bridge to convert ES to ES native and ES native to ES. User deposits ES on Mainnet Plasma, gives proof on ESN and gets ES native credited to their account in a decentralised way.
  4. NRT Manager Contract (on Ethereum or on ESN) If it is possible to send ES from an ESN contract to luck pool of NRT Manager Contract on Ethereum, then it’s ok otherwise, NRT Manager will need to be deployed on ESN for ability to add ES to luck pool.
  5. Era Swap Wallet (React Native App for managing ESs and ES natives) Secure wallet to store multiple private keys in it, mainly for managing ES and ES native, sending ES or ES native, also for quick and easy BuzCafe payments.
  6. TimeAlly (on Ethereum or on ESN) On whichever chain NRT Manager is deployed, TimeAlly would be deployed on the same chain.
  7. Assurance (on Ethereum or on ESN) On whichever chain NRT Manager is deployed, TimeAlly would be deployed on the same chain.
  8. DaySwappers (on ESN) KYC manager for platform. For easily distributing rewards to tree referees.
  9. TimeSwappers (on ESN) Freelance market place with decentralised dispute management.
  10. SwappersWall (on ESN) Decentralised social networking with power tokens.
  11. BuzCafe (on ESN) Listing of shops and finding shops easily and quick payment.
  12. BetDeEx (on ESN) Decentralised Prediction proposals, prediction and results.
  13. DateSwappers (on ESN) Meeting ensured using cryptography.
  14. ComputeEx (on Ethereum / centralised way) Exchange assets.
  15. Era Swap Academy (on ESN / centralised way) Learn. Loop. Leap. How to implement ES Academy is not clear. One idea is if content is constantly being modified, then subscription expired people will only have the hash of old content while new content hash is only available to people who have done Dayswapper KYC and paid for the course. Dayswapper KYC is required because this way people won’t share their private keys to someone else.
  16. Value of Farmers (tbd) The exchange of farming commodities produced by farmers in VoF can be deposited to warehouses where the depositors will get ERC721 equivalent tokens for their commodities (based on unique tagging).
  17. DeGameStation (on ESN) Decentralised Gaming Station. Games in which players take turns can be written in Smart Contract. Games like Chess, Poker, 3 Patti can be developed. Users can come to DeGameStation and join an open game or start a new game and wait for other players to join.

Alpha-release Development Plan
  1. Deploying Parity Node customized according to Era Swap Whitepaper with PoA consensus.
  2. Setting up Plasma Smart Contracts.
  3. Creating a bridge for ERC20 Swap from Ethereum test-net to ESN alpha test-net.

Alpha Version
Era Swap Network Version 1 : Specification
The Version 1 release of ESN plans to fulfill the requirements for political decentralisation and transparency in dApps of Era Swap Ecosystem using Blockchain Technology. After acquiring sufficient number of users, a version 2 construction of ESN will be feasible to enable administrative decentralization, such that the Era Swap Ecosystem will be run and managed by the Era Swap Community and will no longer require the operator to support for it's functioning.
Era Swap Network (ESN) Version 1 will be a separate EVM-compatible sidechain attached to Ethereum blockchain as it’s parent chain. ESN will achieve security through Plasma Framework along with Proof-of-Authority consensus for faster finality. The idea behind plasma framework is to avoid high transaction fees and high transaction confirmation times on Ethereum mainnet by instead doing all the ecosystem transactions off-chain and only post a small information to an Ethereum Smart Contract which would represent hash of plenty of ecosystem transactions. Also, to feature movement of Era Swap Tokens from Ethereum blockchain to ESN using cryptographic proof, reverse plasma of Ethereum on ESN will be implemented.
Also, submitting hash of each ESN blocks to ESN Plasma Smart Contract on Ethereum would force ESN to have a block time equal to or more than Ethereum’s 15 second time as well as it would be very much costly for operator to post lot of hashes to an Ethereum Smart Contract. This is why, merkle root of hashes of bunch of blocks would instead be submitted to ESN Plasma Smart Contact on Ethereum.
Actors involved in the ESN:
  1. Block Producer Nodes Lesser the number of nodes, quicker is the block propagation between block producers which can help quick ecosystem transactions. We find that 7 block producers hosted on different could hosting companies and locations reduces the risk of single point of failure of Era Swap Ecosystem and facilitates 100% uptime of dApps. Block Producer Nodes will also be responsible to post the small information to the Blockchain.
  2. Block Listener Nodes Rest of the nodes will be Block Listeners which will sync new blocks produced by the block producer nodes. Plenty of public block listener nodes would be setup in various regions around the world for shorter ping time to the users of Era Swap Ecosystem. Users would submit their Era Swap Ecosystem transactions to one of these public nodes, which would relay them to rest of the Era Swap Network eventually to the block producer nodes which would finalize a new block including the user transaction.
  3. Bunch Committers This will be an instance in the block producers which will watch for new blocks confirmed on ESN and will calculate bunch merkle roots and will submit it to ESN Plasma Smart Contract. This instance will also post hash of new Ethereum blocks to ESN (after about 10 confirmations) for moving assets between both the blockchain.
  4. Users These will be integrating with dApps which would be connected to some public ESN nodes or they can install a block listner node themselves. They can sign and send transactions to the node which they are connected to and then that node will relay their transactions to block producer nodes who would finalise a block including their transaction.

Bunch Structure

A Bunch Structure in Smart Contract will consist of the following:
• Start Block Number: It is the number of first ESN block in the bunch.
• Bunch Depth: It is Merkle Tree depth of blocks in the bunch. For e.g. If bunch depth is 3, there would be 8 blocks in the bunch and if bunch depth is 10, there would be 1024 blocks in the bunch. Bunch depth of Bunches on ESN Plasma Contract is designed to be variable. During the initial phases of ESN, it would be high, for e.g. 15, to avoid ether expenditure and would be decreased in due course of time.
• Transactions Mega Root: This value is the merkle root of all the transaction roots in the bunch. This is used by Smart Contract to verify that a transaction was sent on the chain.
• Receipts Mega Root: This value is the merkle root of all the receipt roots in the bunch. This is used to verify that the transaction execution was successful.
• Timestamp: This value is the time when the bunch proposal was submitted to the smart contract. After submission, there is a challenge period before it is finalised.

Converting ES-ERC20 to ERC-NA and BACK

On Ethereum Blockchain, the first class cryptocurrency is ETH and rest other tokens managed by smart contracts are second class. On ESN, there is an advancement to have Era Swaps as the first class cryptocurrency. This cryptocurrency will feature better user experience and to differentiate it from the classic ERC20 Era Swaps, it will be called as Era Swap Natives (ES-Na). According to the Era Swap Whitepaper, maximum 9.1 Million ES will exist which will be slowly released in circulation every month.
Era Swaps will exist as ES-ERC20 as well as in form of ES-Na. One of these can be exchanged for the other at 1:1 ratio.
Following is how user will convert ES-ERC20 to ES-Na:
  1. User will give allowance to a Deposit Smart Contract, and following that call deposit method to deposit tokens to the contract.
  2. On transaction confirmation, user will paste the transaction hash on a portal which will generate a Proof of Deposit string for the user. This string is generated by fetching all the transactions in the Ethereum Block and generating a Transaction Patricia Merkle Proof to prove that user’s transaction was indeed included in the block and the Receipts Patricia Merkle Proof to confirm that the user’s transaction was successful.
  3. Using the same portal, user will submit the generated proofs to a Smart Contract on ESN, which would release funds to user. Though, user will have to wait for the Etheruem block roots to be posted to ESN after waiting for confirmations which would take about 3 minutes. Once, it’s done user’s proofs will be accepted and will receive exact amount of ES- Na on ESN.
Following is how user will convert ES-Na to ES-ERC20:
  1. ES-Na being first class cryptocurrency, user will simply send ES-Na to a contract.
  2. User will paste the transaction hash on a portal which will generate a Proof of Deposit for the user. Again ES-Na being first class cryptocurrency, Transaction Patricia Merkle Proof is enough to prove that user’s transaction was indeed included in the block. Another thing which will be generated is the block inclusion proof in the bunch.
  3. User will have to wait for the bunch confirmation to the Plasma Smart Contract and once it’s done, user can send the proof to the Plasma Smart Contract to receive ES-ERC20.

HARD Exit

Since the blocks are produced and transactions are validated by few block producers, it exposes a possibility for fraud by controlling the block producer nodes. Because ESN is based on the Plasma Model, when failure of sidechain occurs or the chain halts, users can hard exit their funds directly from the Plasma Smart Contract on Ethereum by giving a Proof of Holdings.

HOld ES Tokens Swapping with New ES Tokens

The old ES Tokens will be valueless as those tokens will not be accepted in ESN because of NRT (New Released Tokens) and TimeAlly contracts on mainnet which is causing high gas to users, hence reducing interactions. Also, there was an event of theft of Era Swap Tokens and after consensus from majority of holders of Era Swap Tokens; it was decided to create a new contract to reverse the theft to secure the value of Era Swap Tokens of the community. Below is the strategy for swapping tokens:
TimeAlly and TSGAP: Majority of Era Swap Community have participated in TimeAlly Smart Contract in which their tokens are locked for certain period of time until which they cannot move them. Such holders will automatically receive TimeAlly staking of specific durations from the operator during initialization of ESN.
Liquid Tokens: Holders of Liquid Era Swap Tokens have to transfer the old tokens to a specified Ethereum wallet address managed by team. Following that, team will audit the token source of the holder (to eliminate exchange of stolen tokens) and send new tokens back to the wallet address.

Post-Genesis Tokens Return Program

Primary asset holding of Era Swap tokens will exist on Ethereum blockchain as an ERC20 compatible standard due to the highly decentralised nature of the blockchain. Similar to how users deposit tokens to an cryptocurrency exchange for trading and then withdraw the tokens back, users will deposit tokens to ESN Contract to enter Era Swap Ecosystem and they can withdraw it back from ESN Contract for exiting from ecosystem network. The design of the token system will be such that, it will be compatible with the future shift (modification or migration of ESN version 1) to ESN version 2, in which an entirely new blockchain setup might be required.
To manage liquidity, following genesis structure will be followed:

Holder ES-ERC20 ES-Na
Team Wallet 1.17 billion (Circulating Supply) 0
Locked in Smart Contract 7.93 billion (pending NRT releases) 9.1 billion
Though it looks like there are 9.1 * 2 = 18.2 Billion ES, but the cryptographic design secures that at any point in time at least a total of 9.1 billion ES (ES-ERC20 + ES-Na) will be locked. To unlock ES-Na on ESN, an equal amount of ES-ERC20 has to be locked on Ethereum and vice-versa.
9.1 billion ES-ERC20 will be issued by ERC20 smart contract on Ethereum Blockchain, out of which the entire circulating supply (including liquid and TimeAlly holdings) of old ES will be received to a team wallet.
TimeAlly holdings of all users will be converted to ES-Na and distributed on ESN TimeAlly Smart Contract by team to the TimeAlly holders on their same wallet address.
Liquid user holdings will be sent back to the users to the wallet address from which they send back old ES tokens (because some old ES are deposited on exchange wallet address).
ES-Na will be issued in the genesis block to an ESN Manager Smart Contract address. It will manage all the deposits and withdrawals as well as NRT releases.

Attack Vectors

Following are identified risks to be taken care of during the development of ESN:
Network Spamming: Attackers can purchase ES from the exchange and make a lot of transactions between two accounts. This is solved by involving gas fees. A setting of 200 nanoES minimum gas price will be set, which can be changed as per convenience.
DDoS: Attackers can query public nodes for computationally heavy output data. This will overload the public node with requests and genuine requests might get delayed. Block producers RPC is private, so they will continue to produce blocks. To manage user’s denial of service, the provider in dApps needs to be designed in such a way such that many public nodes will be queried simple information (let’s say latest block number) and the one which response quickly to user will be selected.
AWS is down: To minimize this issue due to cloud providers down, there will be enough nodes on multiple cloud providers to ensure at least one block producer is alive.
User deposit double spending: User deposits ES on Ethereum, gets ES-Na on ESN. Then the issue happens that there are re-org on ETH mainnet and the user’s transaction is reversed. Since ETH is not a fixed chain and as per PoW 51% attack can change the blocks. As Ethereum is now enough mature and by statistics forked blocks are at most of height 2. So it is safe to consider 15 confirmations.
Exit Game while smooth functioning: User starts a hard exit directly from Plasma Smart Contract on Ethereum, then spends his funds from the plasma chain too. To counter this, the exit game will be disabled, only when ESN halts, i.e. fails to submit block header within the time the exit game starts. This is because it is difficult to mark user’s funds as spent on ESN.
Vulnerability in Ecosystem Smart Contracts: Using traditional methods to deploy smart contracts results in a situation where if a bug is found later, it is not possible to change the code. Using a proxy construction for every ecosystem smart contract solves this problem, and changing a proxy can be given to a small committee in which 66% of votes are required, this is to prevent a malicious change of code due to compromising of a single account or similar scenario.
ChainID replay attacks: Using old and traditional ways to interact with dApps can cause loss to users, hence every dApp will be audited for the same.

Conclusion

Era Swap Network is an EVM-compatible sidechain attached to the Ethereum blockchain through Plasma Framework. This allows off-chain processing of Era Swap Ecosystem transactions and posting only the hash of the bunch to Ethereum. This greatly reduces the high network fee and confirmation time issues faced by the current Era Swap Ecosystem DApps deployed on Ethereum. Also, having a separate EVM-compatible blockchain tailored to Era Swap Ecosystem improves the user experience to a higher extent. Since by design, Plasma Framework makes the Era Swap Network as secure as the Ethereum Network, user's funds on the network would be secure as well.
We believe Era Swap Network will help scale dApps of Era Swap Ecosystem to onboard the increasing numbers of users.

[PSA] [Cake Wallet] Don‘t use non-ASCII characters in the wallet name - you will lose your Monero!

I just went to a Bitcoin cafe in Prague and bought some Monero. I created a new wallet for it and used the name of the place for it. The problem is: The name for it contains an í. Cake Wallet lets me create that wallet and receive money on it, but as soon as I restart the app, it fails with: "Cannot find value for key: wallet_monero_xxxí xxx_password in keychain“. And of course, since I had no time to write down the seed in those 2 minutes, I have lost that money now.
I verified on a second phone that the space is not the problem, but any non-ASCII will cause this. E.g an ä works just as well to make it fail.
So, don’t ever use any non-ASCII characters in the wallet name in Cake Wallet!
If the dev is reading this: Would be nice if you could release an update fixing this so I can recover my coins.
// Edit: I have iCloud Drive on and see that the wallet is there. Might this be a problem of Unicode normalization and NFC vs NFD? Apple traditionally used NFD instead of NFC for the file system - I would not be expected if they do the same for iCloud Drive.
// Edit: This has been fixed in 3.1.11. Thanks for the quick fix!

Because of many years of reading this sub and the advice provided here, on the worst day of my life, I didn't lose my bitcoin.

Update: Last week, I posted on reddit about my home being consumed by a fire and losing my three beloved cats and all of my worldly possessions. Our story was very well known as we offered a bitcoin reward for our cats (when they were presumed alive) and their were known for their Guinness World Records. I had listened to advice on a subreddit regarding placing my trezor in a firesafe that was ultimately destroyed and soaking wet. Yet, when I pulled my trezor from it, it was intact. Their product is awesome and the people at the company are even better. When they read my story, they offered to donate a portion of any sales** from this post to the Ferndale Cat Shelter, the local 501c Charity shelter my cats raised money for before they perished. I can’t say enough positive things about SatoshiLabs and anyone with crypto should 100% invest in a trezor because not only is their product quality, but their employees are class acts as well. Visit their website to check it out.

ORIGINAL POST:
About 6 weeks ago, I had a house fire. It consumed everything. I did my best to fight it, and when I failed at that, woke my friend up who was staying in a guest room, then gave my all for about 15 minutes to find my cats in the blaze. Ultimately got dragged away by the FD and taken to the hospital. I didn't even think about my bitcoin, as honestly, my cats were all I cared about.
3 weeks earlier, I realized I had a stupid amount of money sitting in a wallet.dat file on my computer, and that I really really should put it on a hardware wallet. So I did. I bought a trezor, loaded it up with my BTC and most other coins I had, and put it in a fire safe:
https://imgur.com/a/DbU9V
Here it is. Thanks Trezor. Your product is amazing. The house burned to the foundation, and the firesafe was externally destroyed, but despite the external appearance, inside was a toasted piece of paper with my seed words and this little guy. He was cooked from the heat, and sopping wet from the flood of water they poured on the house (nearest hydrant was a mile away and so it took an hour to start fighting it).
On that day I lost literally everything. Everything I have ever owned in 33 years of life, and my cats. Since that time I've been emotionally devastated, and I'm working really hard on recovering from that. But because of listening to advice on this sub, I had a trezor in a fire safe. I didn't lose anything but some byteball/pivx/dash I had on my desktop computer I forgot to backup. 95% of my holdings since 2012 remain.
Thank you /Bitcoin and thank you to SatoshiLabs, the makers of Trezor. That little guy is tough as hell. I dont think its advertised as waterproof but I pulled it from an immersed box sopping wet. I let it dry and here is how it looked after when it worked. I now have two cloned trezors in different locations and a safety deposit box with my seed. Saving my bitcoin and this price rise has allowed us to pay for pretty much everything we need since the event happened.
Please, do not offer any donations to me, I'm fine. If you want to support anything, support the Ferndale Cat Shelter or any local cat shelter in your area. I'm the president of the charity. We take care of Detroit Strays. My cats had Guinness World Records and did charity events to raise funds for them. Now that they are gone, we lost that revenue stream for the charity. We accept bitcoin locally at the catfe for donations, adoptions and coffee but I won’t post that info here.
You'll know when you're there as our old address started with 1Catfe and our new address starts with 1CatCafe =) Took ages to offline hash that one out!
Anyways, that's the story, thanks again /Bitcoin, you made the worst day of my life less terrible.
Edit: The Fireproof safe was literally a 40 dollar Walmart special. Would only recommend getting water and fire proof in the future as some medicine I had in there was destroyed due to getting wet

The Exhaustive EOS FAQ

The Exhaustive EOS FAQ

With the large number of new readers coming to this sub we need to make information easy to access so those readers can make informed decisions. We all know there is an unusually large amount of Fear, Uncertainty and Doubt (FUD) surrounding EOS. Frankly, when clear evidence is provided it’s not that difficult to see EOS for the extremely valuable project it is. This post hopes to begin to put an end to all the misinformation by doing the following:
  • Giving a clear and concise answer to the most frequently asked questions in regards to EOS.
  • Giving a more in-depth answer for those who want to read more.
  • Allowing readers to make informed decisions by making credible information easy to access.

As EOS climbs the ranks we need to recognise there are going to be a lot of skeptical readers coming over and posting their questions. Sometimes they will be irrational, hostile and often just looking for a reaction. We should make it our responsibility to welcome everyone and refrain from responding emotionally to provocative posts, instead providing factual and rational answers.
I will add to this post as and when I can, if you have any ideas or spot any mistakes let me know and I'll get them fixed ASAP. Im planning to add a bit on the team, centralisation and DPOS, governance and EOS VC shortly but please let me hear your suggestions!

FAQ

1. How do you registeclaim your EOS tokens before June 2018?

Answer courtesy of endless. If you have not done so, you will need to create a new pair of EOS public and private keys and register them with an Ethereum address. This only needs to be done once.
On or around June 1, 2018 all EOS Tokens will become frozen and non-transferable on the Ethereum blockchain. Not long after, I suspect that EOS community members will create a snapshot of token balances that carry over onto a new community generated and selected EOS blockchain. block.one will not be launching EOS blockchains or operating any of their nodes. Additionally, this is a community subreddit unaffiliated in an official capacity with block.one

Did you buy your EOS tokens on an exchange? (Courtesy of IQOptionCoin)
REMEMBER YOU ONLY NEED TO REGISTER YOUR TOKENS IF YOU BOUGHT THEM ON AN EXCHANGE. YOU DON'T NEED TO CLAIM THEM.
  1. Go to the EOS website https://eos.io
  2. Scroll down and select "GET EOS"
  3. Tick all the required boxes and click "Continue"
  4. Scroll down and click "Register"
  5. Select Metamask, MyEtherWallet, or Ethereum Wallet
  6. Follow the guide.
  7. Remember that the reason you need to register your Ethereum ERC-20 address is to include your EOS tokens in order for the balance of your EOS Tokens to be included in the Snapshot if a Snapshot is created, you must register your Ethereum address with an EOS public key. The EOS snapshot will take place prior to the 1 June 2018. After this point your ERC-20 EOS tokens will be frozen. And you will be issued EOS tokens on the EOS blockchain.
So PLEASE REGISTER your Ethereum address NOW, don't forget about it, or plan on doing it some time in the near future.
There are a lot of submissions about this in /eos, so rather than making a new one please reply to this thread with any questions you may have. Don't forget to join the EOS mailing list: https://eos.io/#subscribe and join the EOS community on your platform(s) of choice: Telegram, Discord and/or Facebook.
And remember, if anyone instructs you to transfer ETH to an EOS contract address that doesn't match the address found on https://eos.io you are being scammed.

2. How will the token the ERC-20 EOS tokens be transferred to the native blockchain?

Quick answer:

There isn't one! Read the long answer then read it again, registering your Ethereum wallet is mandatory!

Long answer:

Within 23 hours after the end of the final period on June 1, 2018 at 22:59:59 UTC, all EOS Tokens will become fixed (ie. frozen) and will become non-transferrable on the Ethereum blockchain.
In order to ensure your tokens are transferred over to the native blockchain you must register your Ethereum address with an EOS public key, if you do not you will lose all your tokens! I am not going to link any tutorials as there are many that can be found by searching Google and YouTube.
block.one is helping with the development of snapshot software that can be used to capture the EOS token balance and registered EOS public key of wallets on the Ethereum blockchain. It is then down to the community to create the snapshot. This snapshot can be used when generating a genesis block for a blockchain implementing eos.io software. block.one will not be launching EOS blockchains or operating any of their nodes.

Exchange Support
Some exchanges have announced that they will support the token swap. Although using this method will undoubtedly be much simpler than registering the tokens yourself it also comes with its pitfalls.
  • It is highly likely there are going to be multiple networks running on the eos.io software that use the snapshot. It is highly unlikely that exchanges will support them all.
  • It is highly likely that exchanges will not support airdrops that use the snapshot.
Exchanges that have announced support for the token swap include:

3. What does EOS aim to achieve?

Quick answer:

EOS.IO software is aiming to provide a decentralized operating system which can support thousands of industrial scale DApps by enabling vertical and horizontal scaling.

Long answer:

EOS.IO is software that introduces a blockchain architecture designed to enable vertical and horizontal scaling of decentralized applications. This is achieved through an operating system-like construct upon which applications can be built. The software provides accounts, authentication, databases, asynchronous communication and the scheduling of applications across multiple CPU cores and/or clusters. The resulting technology is a blockchain architecture that has the potential to scale to millions of transactions per second, eliminates user fees and allows for quick and easy deployment of decentralized applications.

6. Which consensus mechanism does EOS use and what are Block Producers?

Quick answer:

Delegated Proof of Stake (DPOS) with Byzantine Fault Tolerance. Block Producers (BPs) produce the blocks of the blockchain and are elected by token holders that vote for them. BPs will earn block rewards for their service, these block rewards come in the form of EOS tokens produced by token inflation.

Long answer:

Taken from the EOS.IO Technical White Paper v2:
“EOS.IO software utilizes the only known decentralized consensus algorithm proven capable of meeting the performance requirements of applications on the blockchain, Delegated Proof of Stake (DPOS). Under this algorithm, those who hold tokens on a blockchain adopting the EOS.IO software may select block producers through a continuous approval voting system. Anyone may choose to participate in block production and will be given an opportunity to produce blocks, provided they can persuade token holders to vote for them.
The EOS.IO software enables blocks to be produced exactly every 0.5 second and exactly one producer is authorized to produce a block at any given point in time. If the block is not produced at the scheduled time, then the block for that time slot is skipped. When one or more blocks are skipped, there is a 0.5 or more second gap in the blockchain.
Using the EOS.IO software, blocks are produced in rounds of 126 (6 blocks each, times 21 producers). At the start of each round 21 unique block producers are chosen by preference of votes cast by token holders. The selected producers are scheduled in an order agreed upon by 15 or more producers.
Byzantine Fault Tolerance is added to traditional DPOS by allowing all producers to sign all blocks so long as no producer signs two blocks with the same timestamp or the same block height. Once 15 producers have signed a block the block is deemed irreversible. Any byzantine producer would have to generate cryptographic evidence of their treason by signing two blocks with the same timestamp or blockheight. Under this model a irreversible consensus should be reachable within 1 second."

7. How does the voting process work?

The voting process will begin once the Block Producer community releases a joint statement ensuring that it is safe to import private keys and vote.
Broadly speaking there will be two methods of voting:
  1. Command Line Interface (CLI) tools
  2. Web portals
EOS Canada has created eosc, a CLI tool that supports Block Producer voting. Other Block Producer candidates such as LibertyBlock are a releasing web portal that will be ready for main net launch. There will be many more options over the coming weeks, please make sure you are always using a service from a trusted entity.
Remember: Do not import your private key until you have seen a joint statement released from at least five Block Producers that you trust which states when it is safe to do so. Ignoring this warning could result in tokens lost.

8. What makes EOS a good investment?

  • Team - EOS is spearheaded by the visionary that brought us the hugely successful Bitshares and Steem - arguably with two projects already under his belt there is no one more accomplished in the space.
  • Funding - EOS is one of the best funded projects in the space. The block.one team has committed $1B to investing in funds that grow the EOS echo system. EOS VC funds are managed by venture leaders distributed around the world to insure founders in all markets have the ability to work directly with local investors. Incentives such as the EOS hackathon are also in place with $1,500,000 USD in Prizes Across 4 Events.
  • Community Focus - The team is aware that the a projects success depends almost entirely on its adoption. For this reason there has been a huge push to develop a strong world wide community. There is already a surplus number of block producers that have registered their interest and started to ready themselves for the launch and incentives the EOS hackathon are being used to grow the community. A index of projects using EOS can be found at https://eosindex.io/posts.
  • Technical Advantages - See point 9!

9. What are the unique selling points of EOS?

  • Scaleability
    • Potential to scale to millions of transactions per second
    • Inter-blockchain communication
    • Separates authentication from execution
  • Flexibility
    • Freeze and fix broken applications
    • Generalised role based permissions
    • Web Assembly
  • Usability
    • Elimination of transaction fees
    • True user accounts with usernames, passwords and account recovery (no more having to remember long cryptographic keys)
    • Web toolkit for interface development

10. Is there currently a working product?

Quick answer:

This depends entirely on your definition of working product. If a fully featured developer release meets your definition then yes!. Otherwise the public release will be June 2018.

Long answer:

EOS differs from other projects in that it aims to deliver a fully featured version of the software on launch. The Dawn 3.0 RC1 feature complete pre-release became available on April 5th. This version has all the features of the final release that is due June 2018. Further development will involve preparing the final system contract which implements all of the staking, voting, and governance mechanics. The common notion that there is no viewable code published is wrong and the initial Dawn 1.0 release has been available from September 14th 2017.

11. EOS is an ERC-20 token, how can it possibly be a competitor to other platforms?

Quick answer:

The ERC-20 token is used only for raising funds during the token distribution; all tokens will be transferred to the native blockchain once launched.

Long answer:

EOS team has clearly stated their reason for choosing the Ethereum network when they described the rationale behind the ICO model. Specifically, the ICO should be a fair and auditable process, with as little trust required as possible. If you believe that an ICO should be fair, auditable, and trustless, you have no choice but to use a decentralized smart contract blockchain to run the ICO, the largest, and by-far most popular of which is Ethereum. Since EOS is intended to be a major competitor for Ethereum, some have seen this as a hypocritical choice. - Stolen from trogdor on Steam (I couldn’t word it any better myself).

12. Why do the eos.io T&C’s say the ERC-20 token has no value?

The EOS T&C’s famously state:
"The EOS Tokens do not have any rights, uses, purpose, attributes, functionalities or features, express or implied, including, without limitation, any uses, purpose, attributes, functionalities or features on the EOS Platform."

Quick answer:

This is legal wording to avoid all the legal complications in this emerging space, block.one do not want to find themselves in a lawsuit as we are seeing with an increasing amount of other ICOs. Most notably Tezos (links below).

Long answer:

This all comes down to legal issues. Anyone who’s been into crypto for 5 minuets knows that government bodies such as the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) are now paying attention to crypto in a big way. This legal wording is to avoid all the legal complications in this emerging space, block.one do not want to find themselves in a lawsuit as we are seeing with an increasing amount of other ICOs. Many token creators that launched ICOs are now in deep water for selling unregistered securities.

A filing from the Tezos lawsuit:
"In sum, Defendants capitalized on the recent enthusiasm for blockchain technology and cryptocurrencies to raise funds through the ICO, illegally sold unqualified and unregistered securities, used a Swiss-based entity in an unsuccessful attempt to evade U.S. securities laws, and are now admittedly engaged in the conversion, selling, and possible dissipation of the proceeds that they collected from the Class through their unregistered offering."

To ensure EOS tokens are not classed as a unregistered security block.one has made it clear that they are creating the EOS software only and won’t launching a public blockchain themselves. This task is left down to the community, or more precisely, the Block Producers (BPs). The following disclaimer is seen after posts from block.one:

"block.one is a software company and is producing the EOS.IO software as free, open source software. This software may enable those who deploy it to launch a blockchain or decentralized applications with the features described above. block.one will not be launching a public blockchain based on the EOS.IO software. It will be the sole responsibility of third parties and the community and those who wish to become block producers to implement the features and/or provide the services described above as they see fit. block.one does not guarantee that anyone will implement such features or provide such services or that the EOS.IO software will be adopted and deployed in any way.”

It is expected that many blockchains using eos.io software will emerge. To ensure DAPPs are created on an ecosystem that aligns with the interests of block.one a $1bn fund will be has been created to incentivise projects to use this blockchain.

13. Why is the token distribution one year long?

Official statement from block.one:
“A lot of token distributions only allow a small amount of people to participate. The EOS Token distribution structure was created to provide a sufficient period of time for people to participate if they so choose, as well as give people the opportunity to see the development of the EOS.IO Software prior to making a decision to purchase EOS Tokens.”

It is also worth noting that block.one had no knowledge how much the the token distribution would raise as it is determined by the free market and the length of the token distribution is coded into the Ethereum smart contract, which cannot be changed.

Sources:

EOS.io FAQ

14. Where is the money going from the token distribution?

Quick answer:

Funding for the project was raised before EOS was announced, the additional money raised from the token distribution is largely going to fund projects on EOS.

Long answer:

A large portion of the money raised is getting put back into the community to incentivise projects using eos.io software. block.one raised all the money they needed to develop the software before the ERC-20 tokens went on sale. There are some conspiracies that block.one are pumping the price of EOS using the funds raised. The good thing about blockchain is you can trace all the transactions, which show nothing of the sort. Not only this but the EOS team are going to have an independent audit after the funding is complete for piece of mind.

From eos.io FAQ:
“block.one intends to engage an independent third party auditor who will release an independent audit report providing further assurances that block.one has not purchased EOS Tokens during the EOS Token distribution period or traded EOS Tokens (including using proceeds from the EOS Token distribution for these purposes). This report will be made available to the public on the eos.io website.”

15. Who's using EOS?

With 2 months from launch left there is a vibrant community forming around EOS. Some of the most notable projects that EOS software will support are:
A more complete list of EOS projects can be found at eosindex.io.

16. Dan left his previous projects, will he leave EOS?

Quick answer:

When EOS has been created Dan will move onto creating projects for EOS with block.one.

Long answer:

When a blockchain project has gained momentum and a strong community has formed the project takes on a life of its own and the communities often have ideas that differ from the creators. As we have seen with the Bitcoin and Ethereum hark forks you cant pivot a community too much in a different direction, especially if its changing the fundamentals of the blockchain. Instead of acting like a tyrant Dan has let the communities do what they want and gone a different way. Both the Bitshares and Steem were left in a great position and with Dans help turned out to be two of the most successful blockchain projects to date. Some would argue the most successful projects that are actually useable and have a real use case.
What Dan does best is build the architecture and show whats possible. Anyone can then go on to do the upgrades. He is creating EOS to build his future projects upon it. He has stated he loves working at block.one with Brendan and the team and there is far too much momentum behind EOS for him to possibly leave.

17. Is EOS susceptible to DDoS attacks?

No one could have better knowledge on this subject than our Block Producer candidates, I have chosen to look to EOS New York for this answer:
"DDoS'ing a block producing is not as simple as knowing their IP address and hitting "go". We have distributed systems engineers in each of our candidate groups that have worked to defend DDoS systems in their careers. Infrastructure can be built in a way to minimize the exposure of the Block Producing node itself and to prevent a DDoS attack. We haven't published our full architecture yet but let's take a look at fellow candidate EOSphere to see what we mean. As for the launch of the network, we are assuming there will be attacks on the network as we launch. It is being built into the network launch plans. I will reach out to our engineers to get a more detailed answer for you. What also must be considered is that there will be 121 total producing and non-producing nodes on the network. To DDoS all 121 which are located all around the world with different security configurations at the exact same time would be a monumental achievement."

18. If block producers can alter code how do we know they will not do so maliciously?

Quick answer:

  • Block producers are voted in by stake holders.
  • Changes to the protocol, constitution or other updates are proposed to the community by block producers.
  • Changes takes 2 to 3 months due to the fact block producers must maintain 15/21 approval for a set amount of time while for changes to be processed.
  • To ensure bad actors can be identified and expelled the block.one backed community will not back an open-entry system built around anonymous participation.

Long answer:

For this question we must understand the following.
  • Governance and why it is used.
  • The process of upgrading the protocol, constitution & other updates.
  • Dan’s view on open-entry systems built around anonymous participation.

Governance
Cryptography can only be used to prove logical consistency. It cannot be used to make subjective judgment calls, determine right or wrong, or even identify truth or falsehood (outside of consistency). We need humans to perform these tasks and therefore we need governance!
Governance is the process by which people in a community:
  1. Reach consensus on subjective matters of collective action that cannot be captured entirely by software algorithms;
  2. Carry out the decisions they reach; and
  3. Alter the governance rules themselves via Constitutional amendments.
Embedded into the EOS.IO software is the election of block producers. Before any change can be made to the blockchain these block producers must approve it. If the block producers refuse to make changes desired by the token holders then they can be voted out. If the block producers make changes without permission of the token holders then all other non-producing full-node validators (exchanges, etc) will reject the change.

Upgrade process
The EOS.IO software defines the following process by which the protocol, as defined by the canonical source code and its constitution, can be updated:
  1. Block producers propose a change to the constitution and obtains 15/21 approval.
  2. Block producers maintain 15/21 approval of the new constitution for 30 consecutive days.
  3. All users are required to indicate acceptance of the new constitution as a condition of future transactions being processed.
  4. Block producers adopt changes to the source code to reflect the change in the constitution and propose it to the blockchain using the hash of the new constitution.
  5. Block producers maintain 15/21 approval of the new code for 30 consecutive days.
  6. Changes to the code take effect 7 days later, giving all non-producing full nodes 1 week to upgrade after ratification of the source code.
  7. All nodes that do not upgrade to the new code shut down automatically.
By default, configuration of the EOS.IO software, the process of updating the blockchain to add new features takes 2 to 3 months, while updates to fix non-critical bugs that do not require changes to the constitution can take 1 to 2 months.

Open-entry systems built around anonymous participation
To ensure bad actors can be identified and expelled the block.one backed community will not back an open-entry system built around anonymous participation.
Dan's quote:
"The only way to maintain the integrity of a community is for the community to have control over its own composition. This means that open-entry systems built around anonymous participation will have no means expelling bad actors and will eventually succumb to profit-driven corruption. You cannot use stake as a proxy for goodness whether that stake is held in a bond or a shareholder’s vote. Goodness is subjective and it is up to each community to define what values they hold as good and to actively expel people they hold has bad.
The community I want to participate in will expel the rent-seeking vote-buyers and reward those who use their elected broadcasting power for the benefit of all community members rather than special interest groups (such as vote-buyers). I have faith that such a community will be far more competitive in a market competition for mindshare than one that elects vote buyers."

19. What is the most secure way to generate EOS key pairs?

Block producer candidates EOS Cafe and EOS New York have come forward to help the community with this topic.
The block producer candidate eosnewyork has kindly posted a tutorial on steemit detailing the steps that need to be taken to generate key pairs using the official code on the EOS.IO Github.
The block producer candidate eoscafe has gone a step further and released an Offline EOS Key Generator application complete with GUI for Windows, Linux & Mac. Not only can this application generate key pairs but it can also validate key pairs and resolve public keys from private keys. This application has also been vouched for by EOS New York

Is it possible to hack a crypto wallet?

9 Ways to Hack Your crypto Wallet
1. EMAIL PHISHING
An email arrives in your inbox, seemingly from a service you are familiar with or have used before. The email looks completely legitimate, but it is not. Hackers make their phishing emails look identical to legitimate service emails, with the same formats and design used, thus it can be difficult to differentiate them. In some cases, the company hackers are pretending to be from may not even have your email, but you might not even realize that.
2. FAKE GOOGLE ADS/SEO:
A quite known technique involving hackers replacing the top results in search engines with similar links to their websites. You use a search engine to look for crypto websites, click on the first results and end up on crooks’ sites because they have replaced legitimate results with their site URLs.
3. COPY PASTE:
This method involves a program changing a wallet address you put in into one that belongs to crooks. You decide to transfer some kind of cryptocurrenty (whether it’s Bitcoin or Ethereum) to someone, copy their wallet address, paste it in your wallet and prepare to send the cryptocurrency. A special program, like CryptoShuffler, then changes the receiver’s wallet address into one of cyber crooks’ and you transfer the money to them without even realizing.
4. CLONE WEBSITES:
A more elaborate technique involves crooks changing an URL when you type it in the browser address bar. You start typing the URL, it gets changed to a different one (a scam website), and you’re suddenly led to a different, but seemingly identical website. The site may look completely identical to the one you intended to access so you may not realize you’re dealing with a scam page until it is too late.
5. HACKED MOBILE APPS:
If you are not careful when installing apps onto your smartphone, you should be especially wary of this method. Scammers can create apps that would supposedly allow you to participate in crypto-exchange, but after some time, you’d realize that you’re not trading anything with it, merely sending money to the scammer’s account.
6. WIFI HACKING
A serious flaw in WPA, a security protocol for WiFi routers, can be taken advantage of to allow hackers to see data going through your WiFi network. Public WiFi (airport, cafe, station, etc.) users are particularly vulnerable to this.
7. SLACK HACKING BOTS:
A bogus security warning relating to your wallet could be sent to you, you would unsuspectingly press on the URL in the warning, give away your private key and other wallet information, and suddenly someone would have access to your wallet.
8. BROWSER EXTENSIONS
You need to be careful with browser extensions. There are many falsely offering to improve your experience when on trading websites, but instead of doing that, they could be recording everything you type in regards to your wallet. You need to be careful with such extensions, and before installing any of them, make sure they are safe to use.
9. MOBILE SMS 2FA
It’s not unusual for services to rely on SMS 2FA (two-factor-authentication) for an extra layer of security for the users. However, hackers have found ways to intercept the SMS 2FA, gaining access to the code. This could grant them access to various accounts, including those of Coinbase.

13 Months of ADOPTION! -- NANO accepted here! (10)

Hi everyone,
Until May 2018 I posted this on a regular basis since the adoption rate was high. Sometimes we had several new entries per day. Then adoption slowed down and also private work slowed me down.
Also, USE NANO, https://usenano.org appeared and took over some of the work.
usenano.org's listings do not fully match this list and vice versa. Both of us would need to invest some work in order to provide a full list. ;-) -- Both lists together should provide a good overview.
Also: A few weeks ago BrainBlocks reported about 2000 merchants using BrainBlocks. In case they are reading here, please let us know.
This said, I am re-publishing The Reddit NANO Directory
Adoption is crucial! Adoption is king!
ATTENTION: The new Reddit design has screwed up the correct counting in here.
If you switch to the old Reddit design, you will realize, that I am able to count from 1 to over 130.
Dear online merchants,
Please state visibly that you accept NANO and I will be glad to link you here. As a customer I would like to learn about this payment option before having worked my way through to checkout. At the same time this is a great opportunity to advertise NANO as a currency ... on more than 130 sites so far!
Examples: 01, 02, 03, 04.
INTRO 1 (Jan 20, 2019)
After 13 months of adoption we are counting at least 155 (update to follow) shops / options to spend NANO.
This means a current growth rate of <1 shop per day.
NANO has been accepted so far in the US, CZ, GER, UK, CAN, AUS, BRA, FRA, AT, NL, TUR, PH, NZ, JP, RU + CW (Curaçao) + HR (Croatia), ITA, GR (Greece), IRL!!
UPDATED COUNTER: 157 shops / options

Berlin Bitcoin Story: The excitement and difficulties (!) of my first offline use of bitcoin

I’m a new user to bitcoin, although I have an account on a trading platform and have used the currency for online payments (to pay for a job done by a contractor online). What I haven’t done is mining bitcoins. Also, I never actually paid for anything with bitcoin in ‘real life’. Until recently.
I live in Kyiv, Ukraine, and the bitcoin community here is not that big. Yes, we have an exchange which enabled buying BTC through about 4k payment terminals, and we have several merchants and services accepting the currency. It’s still really small. When I read the news and see the EU maps of spots accepting bitcoins, I’m really excited about the prospects. I was excited even more about the possibility to spend some coins in Berlin during my New Year trip.
Just before the holidays, somewhere in mid-December, I bought a fraction of bitcoin on Cex.io. It was a relatively small sum, as I used my spare money. The fee was 4.5% for a credit card; I was ok with it. So, I had my 0.23 BTC issued to my account in a blink of an eye. Previously, I didn’t even use a wallet – just transferred the funds from my Cex account to any address. That was for business purposes. This time, I registered with GreenAddress and downloaded their iOS app. As usual, I transferred funds to my wallet in mere seconds.
Then, I looked up for some places in Berlin where bitcoin is accepted. No wonder they were concentrated in Kreuzberg. I deliberately decided to not bring along much cash with me, as I thought I could get it any time through LocalBitcoins. What I needed was some more coins instead. Accidently, I bumped into one of those 4,000 payment terminals in my neighbourhood (a Hungarian OTP bank has one installed in their lobby). I tried to use this opportunity.
The payment terminal works the following way: you insert cash (UAH), and get a receipt which contains a confirmation code. You enter this code on the website (btcu.biz), and then provide a wallet address where you want the coins transferred. Pretty easy, but… I got involved in the process for an hour or more! First, my eyes couldn’t read the code properly, so I sent a photo of the receipt to their super helpful and incredibly friendly support (my best experience of communication with the support team ever). Then they asked me for my wallet address to issue the bitcoins. ...It turned out they were ‘used to’ Blockchain wallets, so my GreenAddress didn’t work out for some reason. Before I got any response, I registered with Blockchain and transferred my coins to that new account on my own, after which I did another transfer to GreenAddress.
..Well, it took me quite some time to get my bitcoins in my GA wallet via Btcu, it cost me about 9 EUR when paying about 50 EUR in UAH (2 EUR commission + I somehow received 7 EUR less in coins than I was supposed to, according to the course at the time, 29th December), and Cex.io would have been much better and faster.. But those funny support guys were amazing, as well as the opportunity to buy BTC in a 5-minute walk from my home! (I consider it an investment)
In Berlin, I didn’t have a chance to explore many bitcoin-accepting placed, so going to Kreuzberg’s Graefekiez (“Bitcoinkiez”) was a good option. On the first day, I took my friend to the Room 77 cafe which can be easily found by a giant neon Bitcoin sign outdoors. I was so excited! We had their hamburgers with fries. Each one had an immense plate, which didn’t leave any room for the cafe’s weird dessert – a fried Mars bar or something like that. Paying was simple, except for the fact that GreenAddress requires 2FA. So when you make a payment, you need to switch to an authentication app (or receive an SMS) to get a code, copy it, and paste in the GA app. My code lasted 30 seconds, so, on the third attempt, I had to wait till it changes and quickly do the copy-pasting. Lesson learned! The wonderful waitress told us that there were not that many payments with bitcoin, but the cafe was famous for accepting the currency. She herself confessed that she knew nothing about the crypto.
On the second day, we went to see the sci-fi and fantasy books in the Otherland bookstore. I didn’t find what I was looking for, but I finally bought a Vonnegut book. I, again, had several problems with my payment. There was no mobile Internet connection in the store, but the shop assistant gave me the Wi-Fi password without me even asking for it. Then, after fighting the authenticator app, I made a transaction. However, it wasn’t confirmed at once. Despite the fact that I received an email from GreenAddress informing me about the transaction, there was no payment on the bookshop’s side. I tried to tell the assistant that it happens, as the people in the mighty grand Bitcoin network are working on confirmations and assigning them to blocks, which might take time. We had a smoke break and looked at some more books, but there was no payment (I had a ‘5 confirmations’ stated under my transaction). The shop assistant called his colleague to consult on the issue, and they came up with a solution – the gentleman took my email address, to send me a message in case the payment doesn’t go through, and gave me the book I bought. I followed the number of confirmations the entire evening, and it disappeared after reaching 50+. I never got an email from the bookshop.
In this entire story (however a small one), I felt weird. On the one hand, bitcoin should be easy, fast, and relatively cheap (talking about the transactions). I understand that we should balance between simplicity/speed and security, and the latter is more important here. Also, I understand that the perfection of the protocol doesn’t mean that the system is perfect as well. But my message is that I would be excited to be able to pay with bitcoin directly and am patiently waiting for broader adoption in my country, Ukraine.
